Karma and Inappropiate Comments

Yeah, we have all made them. Comments that were inappropiate and regretful. I am always trying to do better....and be kinder.

Last night I spoke with a childhood friend. We updated each other on the personal goings on. I asked about the wife of a mutual friend. He said she had died. Very sad.

Let me call this friend with the deceased wife Joe. Last year, another friend [call him Bret] came to stay with me from OK. His wife had recently died and I was recovering from the death of Jeanie. One fine summer day, Bret and I was setting on the patio. I live next to a busy street. Well Joe just happened to drive by and saw us. We had not seen each other in years.

Joe has changed a lot since childhood. He now looks like a big, gruff, and tattoo laden biker. He does in fact have five Harleys and his wife had one. This is in great contrast to his childhood as he was a bit of a sissy and generally known as a cry baby. He grew up to be a woman beater and has been married six times. Recently, he got a organ transplant and was doing pretty good.

Joe, Bret, and I was just sitting around updating each other on our lifes. Well of course, the fact that I and Bret had recently lost mates came up. Shockingly, Joe made a rude and gruff joke about this and said, "Whadda you guys do, fuck them to death?" We were shocked and did not know how to respond. The conversation stumbled on to something else.

Well about a month passed when Bret and I heard that Joe's wife had a stroke and was in critical condition. I called Joe and offered my prayers and thoughts as we had attended church together as children.

That is the last I heard of it until the conversation last night. I learned she had died. I can't help feeling sad and I am sure he regrets his inappropiate comments about his friend's deceased mates. I forgive him, but I know it hard to forgive one's self.
